Terrace to Prince Rupert

Today I am writing this looking out from our campsite at the trees and Prudhomme Lake. We are at Prudhomme Provincial park just outside Prince Rupert on the Skeena River.
The drive yesterday was a short one (just 90 miles) and all along the Skeena River which got wider and wider and wider as we approached the mouth of the river. It was still fast flowing by our standards but slowed considerably from where it began high in the mountains. The mountains were all snow covered and you could see some glaciers.
Two days ago we saw our first moose but were too late to capture him on film. When your driving 20,000 lbs down the road you do not stop on a dime. Yesterday it was bald eagles and we saw about 4-5 juveniles and 2 mature eagles in trees next to a boat dock.
Because we had some time here we toured some museums. First the Museum of the North which had exhibits of early native culture the coming of the settlers, railway and the fishing, mining and logging industries.
Next was the railway museum and the history of the railway and what an important part of the development of the area it had to have been. The men worked long hours and the pay was $3 per day. Food was bad and living conditions poor also. You wonder how they did it.
Lastly we visited again and old cannery to see how the salmon was processed the nets were made and the old cookhouse, factory store, and the living quarters. Most of this was all built on pilings above the water.
This morning we are going to get some gas for the RV (yes that is an ever present thing that we do) and dump the holding tanks (you know all that stuff goes somewhere) and fill with fresh water. It’s nice that I have found that most of the towns in BC have dump stations located at their visitor centers ( and every town has a visitor center no mater how small it is).
After that it is onto the Alaska Ferry terminal to see how much the ferry ride will cost to where we want to go.
I should be able to post today from Prince Rupert so this should go out this afternoon with all of the others that have been waiting to be sent.
