Third day onboard ship and getting to know the Taku pretty well by now. It has a reading or computer room, theater, lounge, bar restaurant, and several viewing areas.
Really a relaxing voyage but we are ready for Juneau. If I did this trip again I would have planned on getting on and off the ship more often as the cost is the same and we could have spent a couple of days in each of the ports.
I spoke too soon yesterday on the whales, we spotted about a dozen of them yesterday at various times. Some brown bears on several occasions on Sitka Island and some plastic flamingos which the captain of the vessel had some fun teasing us with. Near one of the narrowest passages into Sitka someone had tied plastic flamingoes up in the trees and we were told that it was a rare migration and to look carefully for them.
We were docked in Sitka for some time as they must wait for the tide to be just right to get out of this narrow area. You must wait till the tide is at it’s lowest or highest because the water when the tide is rising or falling rushes so fast thru this narrow channel that it is very hazardous for shipping.
We also docked in Kake, AK and had a great lunch at I believe was the only diner in town. Mike the chef, waiter and everything else made Bev some Halibut without flour and some fish and chips for me. He said he was waiting for his girlfriend to come off the ferry and that he was only the fill in cook. But Mike did a great job and soon Lynn came in and took over for him.
Scruffy will be glad to get off of the ship as he has been confined to the RV this whole time and is not happy with all of the noise and people around him. This cat is paranoid that something is going to get him.
We will be going to Mendenhall Glacier Lake outside of Juneau for our campsite. Hope that we are able to get electrical and water hookups because it may be a tad bit cold there.
Well I am sure that we will be able to get these blogs out today and I can check my e-mail to see how much spam has piled up. I should e-mail all of those optical companies that have me on their lists and tell them I no longer practice and maybe they will stop clogging up my e-mail.
The pictures are some we took from the ship.
Bye for now.
