Ft Fraser to Terrace, BC
We left Ft Fraser and the Beaumont Provincial Park this morning. I must say that the Canadian Provincial Parks have always been quite nice with level gravfel sites and usually dump sites but no electrical or water hookups. But at $15.00 per night they are a bargain.
We have traveled Kleanza Provincial Park outside Terrace, BC. This is right on the river with our campsite just 20 feet or so from the water. Large pine trees surround us and you can hear the running water from the river. I understand that the salmon are now starting to run.
It is hared to imagine that after just a few days you get so used to just another forest just another river just another mountain. The traveler just follows the spaghetti ribbon of asphalt to the horizon. We have now left the low mountains of the interior (equivalent to Big Bear) and are passing thru the Hazelton Mountains which are giant granite structures covered even now with snow and glaciers.
We stopped for a moment today at Burns Lake to watch a parade of the First Nations and tree planting. There were only about 5 floats and fire engines but it was fun and the whole town seemed to have turned out.
Next was a stop in Hazelton to view a native Indian village complete with long houses and costumes with an interpretive tour. They were carving totem poles there also but Bev did not get a picture of the carver.
We then drove to a small Indian village to view some of the original totem poles and stayed for a few moments.
It was late when we got to our campsite tonight and so we went out for dinner to a really nice Greek Restaurant in Terrace. The owner was especially hospitable to us talking abort the town and Greece.
Tomorrow we should arrive in Prince Rupert and will have to see about ferry schedules and tour the museums there. There are about 3 or 4 of them and I hope that they are open on Sunday. I know that these are being posted late but tonight again there is no internet service. See what you get when you are away from the big city, nada. But the view out my front window more than make up for it.
