Straight Arrow

Straight Arrow
Did I mention that my cousin David and his son Craig are archers (you know those things they do with bows and arrows). Well they are and Craig and his father have their homes on 26 acres of wooded land (we’re talking real forest here) in the Romeo, Michigan area. They have trails and lots of wildlife here ( three deer one morning and wild turkeys and geese).
Well Craig was having an archery tournament on Saturday and about 20 archers showed up for the competition. A total of 14 targets were set up out in the forest at varying distances and the participants had to shoot at each target and got a score depending on their accuracy. Some of the targets were located behind or among the trees making the competition as realistic as possible.
Prizes were awarded for individual as well as team competition. Well, David the father’s team won the team competition but Craig surpassed his father in total score.
I was the official scorekeeper for one of the teams and even though I mentioned that I could be bribed no one took me up on the offer.
Later a dinner was served of venison stroganoff to all who were there and I must applaud Miriam and her daughter in law for their working tirelessly all day to provide and excellent dinner for all of those in attendance. Needless to say the scorekeeper was well fed.
It seemed that father and son have not only found a profession that they both share (chiropractors) but also enjoy life and family (children and grandchildren ) together to their fullest.
On Sunday afternoon I left the Riffel clan and headed to Canada and Windsor.
1 David and Miriam Riffel
