Impressions of Toronto

Impressions of Toronto
First impression is that this is a really realllllly big city. Some of the freeways are as many as 8 lanes in one direction. They do their freeways slightly differently and maybe better. When the freeway lanes exceed 6 or more they have express lanes (2-3) which you can only get onto every 10-15 miles and then they will have other lanes separated by a median which are designed for traffic which is on the freeway but will be entering or exiting the freeway within that 10-15 mile distance. This keeps the traffic moving in the express lanes faster.
Next are the trolley cars in the downtown area and even out farther. These are the old 1900 electric trolley cars on rails that move people around the inner city and to the suburbs. They also have a subway system underground but we did not get to use or see it.
The taxi drivers all seem to be Indian or Pakistani, the small grocery store owners oriental, and the restaurants very ethnic in nature.
As an example we ate at a Vietnamese restaurant last night in the Chinese section of town and tonight at a Greek restaurant in the Greek Section of town. There were also other ethnic sections of the city such as Indian etc.
There are enormous buildings 30-40 stories high housing condominiums all over the city. Usually 10-15 such structures in several areas that we could see. This equates to thousands of cars if each one of them had a car but it is my impression from the traffic that many people here do not own cars. The cost of parking them here would be enormous.
The city really has many cultural and other experiences that we could not take in in the limited time we are here.
