Ethnic Diversity

Ethnic Diversity
Windsor when I lived here was primarily a white community with some blacks who had come here before the civil war. Some were in fact Freemen who had bought their freedom in the south. Most of the white population were Italians, Germans, Slavs, English, French, and Scotts. We did not have many other cultures in the city.
What has been most noticeable to me on my return is the number of other ethnic groups.
One the French have whole independent high schools here.
You see Vietnamese neighborhoods and middle eastern neighborhoods and Muslims going about the city. There are Indian and Pakistani restaurants in very ethnic areas.
Next are the Jamaican and other Nigerian and Ghana areas with student from everywhere it seems.
It seems strange but my first night here I went for Vietnamese food, the next was a really great Italian pizza parlor, breakfast one morning was I think Polish and for lunch today it was an Irish pub. Wow you just can’t beat that and tonight it will be perch fish.
Canada has had an open door immigration policy for some time towards other countries that are part of the Commonwealth of Nations from the old British Empire. This certainly has changed the diversity of this city, and I think as I travel farther east many of the other cities in the country.
