THe Royal Museum of Ontario

The Royal Museum of Ontario
Today we spent all day in the RMO and we did not see it all. It seems that our feet are just not swift enough or we linger too long on an exhibit or there is just too much to see.
We arrived by 9:00 and did not leave until 4:00 but we still missed some of the exhibits.
There were sections on mammals, birds, children’s exploration, bat caves, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Bronze age, Early American and Canadian, French, Asian, etc.
The nice thing about some of the exhibits or galleries is that they would show you the history or chronology of something like furniture in the Americas and the influences of the French, later English and German craftsmen in making the pieces and how the designs were changed over time and with different materials and finishes.
Other things included the history of eating utensils and showing the way fabric was made and how different patterns and dyes were later developed in different parts of the world.
Sections on clothing and how it was stitched together or wrapped around a person depending on the region of the world it was made. This included Eskimo, Japanese, Egyptian, and many more.
Even the architecture of the building is a blend of the old and the new. Some of it from the turn of the century blended into the modern glass crystal structure of the new front.
The taking you thru architecture from the different periods of civilization was also most interesting.
Well there is just too much to remember but it was a great day topped off with going to the Greek section of Toronto (you know it’s Greek when the street signs are in English and below that in Greek) and having a wonderful dinner.

2-5 Views of the exhibits, Greek statues, clothing, Egyptian tombs, and the Chinese exhibit
