Soldotna, AK day 2
We went to the Soldotna city museum today and saw the original cabins and school that the homesteaders built here. This town did not exist before 1947 and after WWII the GI’s were given the opportunity to homestead land here in what was once a wilderness. They got 160 acers of land if they would build a cabin on it and live on the land for 7 months. Many of the original homesteaders are still here and now a thriving city on the banks of the Kenai River. After that some errands and we changed our RV site to Centennial City Park right on the river. I like this site better than the Swiftwater River Campground but they tell me the fishing is better over at the other rv park. Oh well no fishing today as I do not have a license yet.
Tomorrow we plan to go down to Kenai by car and just do some sightseeing. We are getting into the just sit mood. Tonight, I am going to go over to a coffee shop with internet service so you should have some pictures on the blog.
Bye for now.
