Chicken AK to Dawson YK

Well after posting some cards from Chicken and Bev buying a jacket and I bought a t-shirt it was time to leave this splendid little bit of nowhere. The next stop was the border and get out the passports. Bev tried to get US customs to mail a card for her the next time they could but was politely told that they did not do that and they only got mail or out of there every 2-3 months. So much for homeland security and keeping our borders safe in the middle of no mans land. Lots of contraband I am sure comes thru at Chicken AK to the US from the top of the world hwy.
Canadian customs was rather routine (are you bringing any guns into the country (same question every time) and what brings you to Canada (business or vacation) and where do Chicken, AK to Dawson Yukon Territory
you reside with a Canadian passport.
The Top of the World Hwy is aptly named because you travel along the ridgetops and mountaintops of this country. I mean that there are no guardrails on a dirt road thousands of feet high on a ridgeline that seems to go on forever. Great views when you can take your eyes off of the road.
This is not the trip for those who want to travel on a freeway but other than being dusty (I mean to tell you this is real dust that gets into everything in the coach), we had a great time. Just slooooooow down put it in 1st gear and hope that the bottom of the mountain does not bottom you out.
We arrived in Dawson and were staying at the Provincial campground on one side of the river and the town is on the other side. To get there you take the ferry across. It runs about every 15 minutes all day long. In winter there is an ice road over the river and for about 6 weeks in fall and spring there is no ferry or ice road. The Top of the World Road and Taylor Hwy are only open in summer. Makes you wonder what they do in Chicken all winter long.

Maybe, if I may suggest, a lot of contraband comes to Canada from the US!!! Why ruin an otherwise good blog with such a biased unproven comment.
