Inuvik

Inuvik, NWT
I have now driven as far north as someone can drive in the summertime.
The town of Inuvik is alive and well and with the 50 year anniversary things are going on and happening. We toured the Visitor Center with all of its artifacts of northern Indian and Eskimo life. The Eskimos here I think prefer to think of themselves as Indians.
Next a drive around town and I got the spare tire fixed.
There is and artist exhibit at the Northern Lights Artist Assoc. at the civic center. These centers here tend to be large sports complexes with indoor swimming pools, tennis courts, curling rinks, hockey rinks, etc. We looked at all of the intricate artwork and they even had a number of artists there carving or making beadwork baskets, etc.
Then it was time for some lunch.
At the park by the boat dock they said we could take our lunch and watch and they were having a goose plucking exhibit. Bev had never seen this and I was game to go (after all when can you watch a real professional goose plucker in action, but alas Bev is just not into plucking. Well, I guess you are either a plucker or a non plucker.
Anyway now it is 12:00 and we must get on the road to come back so fill the tank with gas and out you head.
The road back again heads thru tundra and you are at the end of the road and have collected two certificates.
1. Achieving the Artic Circle collected at Eagle Plains
2. Achievement Certificate for completing driving the Dempster Hwy
