Homer and Fishing
I went out on the ½ day charter from Homer and caught my limit of Halibut (2) which turned out to be a great day. Hallibut do not fight much but it is a chore to haul them in as they are a very wide fish that are on the bottom (200-300’ deep) . I caught about 6-7 more for release and so did the rest of the boat and everyone had a good time. The crew was great and very fast at rebaiting and clearing the fish caught. When we came into shore all of the tagged fish had been filleted and were ready for us to take home. Bev and I enjoyed a halibut fish dinner which she said was the best ever. It may have been said just to make me feel good.
We also met our first two other Trek’s since coming to AK. Richard and Lois Piispanen from Edmonds, WA are here with their friends. They have a 98, 2430 just like ours and their friends a 98’ ,2830 like my sisters. We sat around in the evening talking Trek talk and drinking coffee. In the morning they were up and gone before I could say goodbye but we wish you all a safe and good journey. I did see them on the road and honked but they were going in the opposite direction and with traffic it was impossible.
We left Homer the day after fishing and came back past Soldotna to Coopers Landing on the way to Anchorage.
Our campsite tonight is on the Kenai River where it joins the Russian River. I would have fished for salmon here at the Russian River Ferry crossing but the red salmon just have not come upriver this year yet. We met a college girl from San Diego down by the river and she said they were just not here yet and probably in a week or so.
Today, we will go to Anchorage and try to do some laundry and get the RV and Jeep serviced. Yes it has been over 3000 miles so far. Well Bev is finally up so I must go.
