Turkey Pete

My first character of the west will be Turkey Pete who was sentenced in Montana in 1918 for two murders. Now Turkey was not such a bad guy once in prison and even was given cell #1. As with many of the prisoners he had a job and his was to take care of the prison turkeys, hence the name. Well in later years Turkey sort of lost reality and one day sold all of the turkeys to someone who happened to stop and admire them.
Later still to pacify Turkey in his declining years he was allowed to have checks printed by the prison printing shop and Turkey fancied himself quite the entrepreneur and even purchased the prison. After that he paid the guards and all of the staff with checks from his non existent bank account and even went on to save Brazil’s coffee crops and sold grasshopper legs to Fidel Castro.
But he must have been a real likable character because he was the only prisoner to die in Montana Prison who was given a funeral within the prison walls and thereafter his jail cell was retired.
So now folks you have the first of the nefarious characters of the old west.
