Badlands to Mitchell SD

Surprise - Surprise
Today I traveled again ever eastward in South Dakota. It is amazing the terrain changes in the state. From the Black Hills which are granite but not as high as the Rockies you go into a hill area. Then you are in the Badlands which can best be described as sandstone cliffs that were carved out when receding water left deposits on the oceans floors. Lots of red and yellow and sand colored rock really make them interesting. Next you proceed to low rolling hills of grassland. Mostly pastureland with not much of any farming.
The terrain continues to flatten and now there are thousands of acres of sunflowers. All
with their flowered heads pointing in the same direction to ward the east in the morning. Next the land flattens more and you see nothing but cornfields and what I think may be soybeans.
Just before Chaimberlain, SD I heard this THUNK and the steering definitely felt strange for a moment. Now THUNK is not a good sound in the RV lifestyle. Time to think about stopping reallllly soooooon. Next a car beside me starts to point at my car. Now you know that you have a visual confirmation that something is wrong.
So I stop at the side of the road and inspect the RV and Jeep. Well the tire pressures are fine in the RV, there is nothing dangling down and the Jeep tires are all inflated. Best to go around and check again. Well the Jeep had a tread separation and now there is no tread on the passenger front tire. The THUNK I heard was the tread leaving the Jeep and hitting the underside of the vehicle.
Good thin that the off ramp is just 1 mile ahead and when I pull in verrrry slooooowly I might add with hazard lights flashing there is a motel (no tire shop in town) and it has a large concrete paved parking lot.
So tire changed ( I’m getting good at this on the Jeep) and I am on my way to Mitchell SD where I am told that there is a Wally World. So now they are putting 4 new tires on the Jeep ( I decided that this would be a prudent course of action because all of the tires look to be the same age.
I did pass over the Missouri River on my way here and it is very large to say the least.
While in Mitchell SD I plan to see the Corn Palace. One of the highlights of the state and a must see.
So much for now and we will have the next episode posted when I have internet service.

1 Fossils at the Badlands
2 Grasslands
3 Sunflowers all facing the same way
4 Missourri River
5 Tire after changing (look ma no treads)
