Jasper to Honeymoon Lake
We left Jasper this morning in the rain and it look to us as if the rain just seems to follow us on this vacation. Everywhere we were looking we saw high Rocky Mnts. But we could not see the tops of them for the clouds. Therefore we only traveled 50 Km today (about 30 miles) and I decided to stop for the day and see if the weather would clear by tomorrow.
We did stop and see two really great waterfalls the Athabasca Falls and the Sunwapta Falls.
The Athabasca Falls come from where else but the Athabasca River which eventually flows into the McKenzie River and then into the Arctic Ocean. If you will recall we traveled along this river on our way the Arctic Ocean ourselves. These were both great falls where the water has carved out of the silicate rock narrow and deep channels that seem to dive straight down into an abyss.
These long canyons seem to be sheer rock on both sides and where you do see erosion from the immense force of the water it is in what appears to be layers of rock carved like giant pages of a book.
Well we will relax today then in this lovely campsite by Honeymoon Lake and wait for the weather to turn sunny or at least for the cloud cover to clear. The spot is really neat right on the lake again with few people. Something we missed in Jasper as there are hundreds of campers there.
