Big Timber, Montana to Buffalo, Wyoming
Well today was a most interesting day. I thought I was leaving the mountainous areas and would be on the plains or prairies today. Indeed the mountains did give way to lower mesas or buttes with long wide valleys and then climbing and descending into the the next valley. These are long, very long 6% grades that must be ascended and then descended. Along the way there was a stop to visit the Big Horn National Cemetery in the Crow Indian Reservation. This is where Custer’s last stand took place. More on that in the next post.
After spending a couple of hours at the site it was time to move on and I went to Sheridan Wyoming where I stopped and gassed up and went to the local Burger King because they had free internet there. As you know I obtained my new wifi card in Hamilton, Montana and have not had a chance yet to install it. Well after contacting Verizon and about 45 minutes later it is now installed and I can use it. Still a little apprehensive though because of the service areas of Verizon and what the charges are to connect when you are not in a Verizon area.
I did upload the blogs for the last several days so that is done and afterwards headed to Buffalo, Wyoming. This is a really nice old western town and I went down to the old downtown area and photographed the old Hotel and Saloon. There are 27 bullet holes in the bar from various altercations in the wild west era of the saloon. The bar really was quite unique with all of it’s stuffed animals and when coming into town I spotted two deer just walking along the street. Now that’s something you do not see everyday.
The terrain here is getting steeper and I think that I may be getting into the Black Hills. I plan to try to make Mount Rushmore tomorrow and see it at night. That should prove interesting.
I tried to call Bev today and she must not have had her cell phone on or with her because I just got voice mail. I left a message at home to, possibly our new granddaughter is arriving today. Well time for some sleep and I have to brush Scruffy as he is shedding badly.
