Somoto, Nicaragua to La Union, El Salvador
December 12, 2009

Roads and Mountains in Honduras
Oxen and tobacco growing
Cows on the road
Coffee drying and being sacked
More mtns and roads

Well to day was another of those border crossing days and you all kow how well we here on the TRIP like border crossing days. We started from Somoto Nicaragua and just about 20 miles or less down the road was the border into Honduras. This one went quite well and we were out of Nicaragua and into Honduras in less than one hour I think.
The trip across the western part of Honduras was uneventful and we only had to ask for directions about 5-10 times as we had been on this road before. Remember we only have the Lonely Planet Book as a map for this country. About a ½ page map in a 3x5 book for the whole country. But it was only about a 125 mile drive and at about 11:30 we were at the border to El Salvador. With border helpers it took about 30-45 minutes to exit Honduras and I thought that this was going to be easy and we could be at La Union by 1:00PM. HA, HA, HA.
The immigration (that’s your passports only) went really smoothly and then the customs (that’s the vehicles went really badly. You see we had been in El Salvador just over one month ago and turned in our Aduana papers (the RV and Motorscooter) when leaving the country. Well they are not supposed to issue you new papers but every 3 months so you are here two months early. What to do? Well the officer said he would try to help us and then of course there was lunch and then more paperwork and move your vehicle three different times and then we need more copies of these documents and well you now get the picture. So after about 3 hours we had our customs papers and were entered into El Salvador. And to think I could have bypassed this country entirely. Well I hope that it will be worth it.
It was worth it to Bev and I to get thru Honduras again in one day. It was the country we both had some trepidation about visiting. But now it is behind us.
It was thankfully only a short 25-30 mile drive to the Comfort Inn where we stayed last time we were here. But the price has changed to $20.00 per night and we were charged for the night that we were here last time. Ah, the Central American attitude to customer service and goodwill. But it is safe here and the pool felt good to climb into. Yes we had to do this as the kiddie pool was the only one open to guests as the adult pool was being refilled and was closed. So instead of dinner in the hotel restaurant we opted for dinner in the RV.
Tomorrow we will go along the coast I hope and take a more leisurely drive and stop early for the night. I hope that we can find a Motel with these amenities again as having the pool is really nice.
I will try to post these blogs in the Hotel tonight and get my blog up to date.
Hoe that you are all enjoying where you are at and what you are doing because life is short and fun is and important aspect of life. Get as much fun as you can.
