Cenote Azule
November 11, 2009
Today was a relaxing day with not much to do. First a trip into Chetumal to do some shopping and to see the town. Really quite large and we lucked onto the central market where I bought a backpack to replace the one where the zipper broke making it quite useless.
Next on to get some butane for the RV which we again lucked out passing the butane plant. Then onto gas for the RV. Why is it that every time I pass a gas station it is always on the wrong side of the road. One thing I have found is that here in Mexico the Pemex stations is that they are usually large making getting into them with the RV easy.
We then found a large Wal Mart type grocery store Chemmal I think may have been the name of it and stocked up with items that we needed. The bakery sections of all of these stores are just huge and the meat sections will cut to order for you.
Then it was back to Cenote Azule or Blue Lagoon for a refreshing dip into that clear blue water. You can see the bottom which is a decomposed limestone rock or sand and there are small (6’ in diameter ) limestone rocks in the water which are flat and just covered with water at the waters edge. Other than that the water is just as clear as a swimming pool and the temperature the same. This is the same cenote as Bacalar Cenote which is called the cenote of 7 colors. Even here you can see the different shades of clear with a white bottom, turquoise and then going to a deep blue color in the water.
This has to be the prettiest campsite we have been in with the grassy area that the RV sits on and the waters edge right in front of us. However all good things must come to an end and tomorrow we go to Belize. Yes, we will be in a different country tonight and probably on the Caribbean ocean. Belize is a small former British colony and so English will again be the language used. We have been seeing even here some of the Mennonite ancestors that have emigrated to Belize. The men wearing their bib overalls and straw hats and the women in their long dresses with the white aprons and with their bonnets on.
Well time to go and relax some more.
